Today was a spring day in the midst of winter. Georgia weather is always playing games and this year is no exception. Today the sun was bright, the air was mild, and every now and then there was a gust of lovely wind. That is, while I was outside, which was for a minute in the morning, twice to walk from my car to the school building, and twice to walk from one school building to another... and then for a walk when I got home. 

Anyway, it was very still this evening, and I wanted to try to capture that. The first few pics are from this morning, the rest from my walk this evening.

I love these kinds of days.

Today was so bright and cheerful that I was drawn to my camera. It always happens--first in September or October, when the sky is a clear and vivid blue, and then in the early months of the year, usually February or March. Today was one of those days. 

It's crisp outside, but that's part of the charm. There is not a single cloud in sight and the sky seems to vibrate with color. I opened my window for a bit while I cleaned my room.

 

Of course, since school started back, we've had less time to watch TV (I'm sure it's not a bad thing). But when we do, I always feel like I need to do something with my hands. I decided I would try embroidery again. I found a huge selection of thread that Sara had found in her house and reorganized it by color... So far this is what I have done:

For Art Appreciation class, we spent some time working in Adobe Illustrator to design abstract pieces... We've finish two so far. I have to name them. I think I will call the first one "The Rise" but I am completely stumped on what to name the second one...

I sleep with an excessive (or so they tell me) amount of blankets.

Anyway, back to homework... :) 

Eagle Project Trail

For his Eagle Scout Project, Quinn is going to finish a trail behind the Rec Center. It's really quite cute. It follows a creek and has several bridges already in place. We went out today because it was wet and rainy; part of Quinn's job will be to make the trail safe when it's muddy.

Look at all that river cane! That's what Quinn called it, anyway. I thought it was some sort of bamboo.

Quinn.

Today I took pictures of Quinn, which I really rarely do. (For those of you who don't know, Quinn's my younger brother and best friend.) I mean, proper pictures. He wanted to show off his new vest and pants and tie, so I tore my eyes away from my algebra homework (this is gonna be an interesting semester) and went out to the big cedar to take some photos.

You may have noticed, but there are three main photo places on our property. The cedar, the little barn, and the driveway. I used them all. ;)

Quinn is a character... hilarious, odd, imaginative, creative (and sometimes evilly pedantic). Since I draw a blank when taking photos of people--I can find good light and make sure they aren't looking their worst, but can't think of interesting things to do--Quinn made up for it by acting goofy. We took some 150 photos of silliness. :D Here are nine!

That one on the far right middle is his impersonation of Logan (coached by me a bit). Hehehe. ;) Isn't it cool how the sun set while we were taking photos? First it was above my lens height, but slowly sank until there was a sun flare.

He's gotten so tall that I have to stand on that green stool for every shot. Sometimes we end up brushing our teeth at the same time and we look so funny in the mirror together. I used to be so much taller than him back in the day, and now I come up to his shoulder!

When he's not plugged into his computer, this is what Quinn looks like on a daily basis: dressed a bit funny and in the middle of explaining something to me. I thought I should have a few shots of candid Quinn at least.

I might take some more pics tomorrow! We shall see. I feel like we need some more pretty portrait type shots.

a toast to 2011

2011 was the most documented year of my life, apart from my early childhood (because, naturally, I was a terribly cute child...). Since I finished high school early in the year, I spent much of my free time taking pictures during the summer.

Since I took so many photos this year, I thought I would pick my favorite from each month... As a New Year's-sy thing to do. :)

Ahhh, that was fun to look back through. I chose whichever picture best represented how each month felt to me (except the last one. December was full of TV and cookies, but Griffin's scruffy chin and bow tie are sooo much cooler). Can you see how the light changes over the year? I think you can see the difference between the direct sunlight in February and the direct sunlight in October...

To everyone who follows my blog - thank you! It's a lovely feeling to know that others enjoy seeing my through my eyes. 

My New Year's Resolutions? 1) Take every opportunity for adventure available, 2) take even more photos of 2012 than of 2011, 3) bloody read/listen to some bloody books, and 4) less TV.
