Today was cold. I was hungry and tired most of the day, but I perked up in mineralogy class, like I always do. Our class went on a little tour to the UGA electron microprobe, an ancient but still quite useful machine sporting the colors of a orange creamsicle pop and decorated with years worth of stickers, figurines and tinker toys. The guy who runs the machine showed us how it works, pulled up an image on a flickering analog screen that showed a few microns of mineral sample magnified to a foot in diameter. I won't repeat the details, but it was fascinating that such an old machine, made before PCs, would still be of everyday use to a expert geologist.
I took the trek back to my car on foot with my lab partner so as to avoid the crowed busses. When I finally arrived at home, I wanted nothing more than a shower. The sunset light was shining in through the shower curtain and I wished I hadn't left my phone downstairs, it was a gorgeous sight. But the sun set and when I opened the shower curtain there was the steamy window illuminated by the peach skies.
